Description

Crunchy, sweet, slightly salty and ready in just a few minutes: these maple syrup-glazed walnuts are a little kitchen miracle. All you need is a pan and a handful of simple ingredients – and you have the perfect topping for porridge or desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup (80 g) walnuts
  • 2 tbsp (30 g) maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet: Place a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet or large plate. You’ll use this later to cool the walnuts.
  2. Preheat the pan: Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Preheating helps the maple syrup caramelize properly.
  3. Toast the walnuts: Add the walnuts to the hot skillet and toast for 1–2 minutes, until fragrant.
  4. Caramelize: In a small bowl, stir together the maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt, then pour into the skillet. Cook the walnuts for 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the syrup thickens and evenly coats the nuts. Once there’s no liquid left in the pan, they’re done.
  5. Cool: Transfer the walnuts to the prepared parchment paper, spreading them out and separating them with a fork. As they cool, the coating will harden and become crisp.
  6. Let set: After about 20–30 minutes, the walnuts will be fully set. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
