Hi there!
My name is Melanie, I am 29 years old and I live together with my Dalmatian Bella in the beautiful city of Berlin in Germany. Since 2013 I’ve been eating plant-based.
Why plant-based?
For this story, I have to go back in time a little. Between 2009 and 2012 I was an Au pair and student in the US. In the beginning, I did not know anything about how a healthy diet looks like (and actually, I didn’t care). I used to eat out a lot with my host family and friends and tried every interesting looking “food” item I could find in grocery stores, from fancy cereals (and there are so many in the US) to sprayable cheese from a can. As you can imagine, within a short period of time I gained quite a bit of weight.
One day I looked into the mirror and told myself: “That’s it, Melanie!”. I started reading blogs and searched the internet for information about a healthy lifestyle. After that, everything went pretty fast: I started exercising on a regular basis and cooked my own meals every day (at that time they weren’t vegan yet). After a while I lost weight and felt much better in my own skin. Also, I began to enjoy cooking healthy meals and creating my own recipes.
Back in Germany: With the beginning of my studies in nutritional science, I started my own food blog. In January 2013 I decided to try a plant-based diet for 30 days out of curiosity (and as a litte challenge). After those 30 days I was hooked – I felt fitter, my digestion was running at full blast and my skin problems also started to subside. I’ve never looked back to my old eating habits.
